Dr. Schemel's work focuses on the prevention and investigation of catastrophic fire, explosion, and thermal runaway incidents. Dr. Schemel combines his education and experience in chemical engineering with specialized knowledge from a Ph.D in engineering from the BRE Center for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
He offers consultative services regarding the analyses of catastrophic and nuisance fire & explosion events, including safety system analyses specific to process industries, oil & gas operations, both on and off-shore, mining operations, furnace operations, combustion systems and general manufacturing.
Dr. Schemel is a skilled and experienced multi-disciplined team leader promoting comprehensive incident investigations and scientific reconstruction analyses. He provides complex process fire and explosion hazard evaluations using multi-disciplined and state-of-the-art approaches to data gathering, facility evaluation, consequence analysis, mitigation strategy development, equivalent safety alternatives and risk assessment.
Dr. Schemel maintains a contract teaching position with Saudi Aramco in Fire Safety Engineering and has research interests in natural and porous fuel combustion processes, industrial explosion analysis, gas dispersion and general fire safety issues.
